What is a controlled load?

A controlled load tariff is electricity supplied to specific appliances, such as an electric hot water system, underfloor heating or a swimming pool, which are often separately metered. A controlled load tariff has a lower rate as these appliances operate during off-peak hours (usually overnight). Your controlled load tariff includes a usage charge per kWh and a daily supply charge.

There are two levels of controlled load; 1 and 2. Controlled load 1 has cheaper rates than controlled load 2 and runs for less time during off-peak hours. Larger households may need controlled load 2 if the appliances requires a larger supply of electricity.
